How this site works
carfobbattery.com answers one question: which coin cell goes in the key fob for a given car and year. This page explains where the answers come from and what we will not do.
What counts as proof
A battery is shown only when one of two things is true:
- Owner's manual. The factory owner's manual for that model year names the battery, and the year of the manual is confirmed from its cover, edition code or the maker's own site.
- Two sites agree. Two different websites, each selling or documenting that exact key, list the same make, model, years and battery. Two pages on one website count as one source. A listing that names only one trim proves only that trim.
Some pages are ruled out as sources: forums, video sites, auction listings, dealer blogs, and lookup sites that copy each other. The Energizer key fob chart counts as one source for 2014 to 2023 model years only, since that is what it covers.
When sources disagree
If a manual and a seller, or two sellers, name different cells for the same key, the row stays off the site and shows "Not confirmed yet". We never change a battery to make sources match. Aftermarket replacement keys sometimes take a different cell from the factory key; when that is the only conflict, the factory answer needs a manual before it is shown.
Spot checks
Before this version went live, 50 published rows were picked at random and checked against a source the row did not use (a battery maker's chart or a seller not already cited). 42 matched, 7 could not be checked against a second source because none could be found (all of them are manual-backed), and 1 showed a battery-count conflict; that row and four sister models that share its remote were taken off the site until the conflict is settled.
Numbers in this version
- 972 make and model pairs, model years 1996 to 2026
- 2,692 rows with proof, covering 5,535 model-year answers
- Every other year: "Not confirmed yet"
How the site will pay for itself
Battery buttons lead to a plain Amazon search for that cell size. Today those links carry no tracking code and earn nothing. Later the site may use affiliate links, which would pay a small fee on purchases at no extra cost to you; if that happens, this page will say so first. No company pays to be listed and the battery answers do not change based on where you buy.
Found a mistake?
Write to [email protected] with the car, year and what your fob or manual says. A photo of the old cell helps.
