Ford Fusion key fob battery
10 of the 15 model years listed for the Ford Fusion have a proven battery. The most common answer is CR2032. Rows below run oldest to newest; a year can appear twice when the car came with more than one kind of key.

Changing the battery
Key with remote in the head
- This type has the buttons built into the key head. The cell is inside that head, between two clipped halves.
- Work a thin flat tool into the seam near the blade and twist; go round slowly if it does not open at once.
- Inside you may find a small circuit board in a tray. Lift the board out if the cell is underneath, swap the cell with the same side up, and refit the board.
- Snap it closed and press each button. The car still starts with a dead remote battery on most of these keys, because the start chip needs no battery.
A CR2032 is 20 mm across and 3.2 mm thick. CR2032, CR2025 and CR2016 share the same width but not the same thickness, so a swap between them can leave a loose contact or a case that will not close.
Flip key
- Swing the key blade open first. On most flip keys the cell lives in the body behind the hinge.
- Look along the edge for a notch. A coin turned in that notch usually separates the remote half from the blade half.
- Take out the old cell, noting which side faced you, and fit the new one the same way.
- Close it up, check the blade still flips cleanly, and test the buttons at the car.

Smart key (push-button start)
- Most push-button fobs hide a metal backup key. Press or slide its catch and draw the key out first.
- The gap left by the metal key usually has a pry point. A slow twist with a thin flat tool (tape on the tip saves the plastic) opens the two halves.
- Note which side of the old coin cell faces up (usually the side with the writing), lift it out with a plastic tool, and press the new one in the same way.
- Reassemble, refit the emergency key, and check that the car sees the fob when you press start.
Ford intelligent access fobs usually have a release for the emergency key. The key blade itself fits the pry slot.
A CR2450 is 24.5 mm across and 5.0 mm thick, much fatter than a CR2032. A thinner cell will rattle and lose contact, so buy the exact size.
Coin cells are a choking and burn hazard for children. Store the spares in their original pack, out of reach.
